Chapter 22 - Self-Hypnosis

If you desire, you may hypnotize yourself. It is only necessary to use the same process which you use on others and apply it to yourself. One way this may be done is by using a phonograph record on which the sleep formula has been recorded by you, or by someone else. You may incorporate in it the directions you desire and the period of time you wish to remain in the state. It is not necessary for you to reach a deep state of hypnosis for the suggestions to take effect. Another method is to put a microphone under your pillow at night and use a clock arrangement to turn on the speaker at a certain time after you are asleep. The sub-conscious mind will absorb the lecture during your sleep.

Personally, I believe that better and quicker results will be obtained by permitting another psychologist to administer the treatments, if treatment is deemed necessary. You would escape some of the disadvantages of self-hypnosis and self-treatment, which are self-evident, once you have tried it. However, do not take this to mean that you cannot administer to yourself the everyday suggestions as to well-being and success, as elsewhere set forth in this book.
